[gopher] Forums, Resources, and Services

There are several forums available for discussing Gopher:

  1) This Email mailing list: gopher -at- complete.org
(for Gopher discussions, questions, and advocacy).

  2) A network News protocol newsgroup: comp.infosystems.gopher
(for discussions on Gopher Client Development, Gopher Server Development, The Protocol "Gopher", and Gopherspace Engineering).

  3) An Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel on the Freenode IRC server: #gopherproject
(for Gopher discussions, questions, and advocacy).

There are several Gopher resource sites on the World Wide Web (http):

  1) A linklist to Gopher resources in the Open Directory Project (dmoz): http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Gopher/index.html

  2) A central download location for basic Gopher Clients for several Operating Systems:
  http://home.jumpjet.info/index.htm
  3) A Gopher Protocol entry in Wikipedia:
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopher_(protocol)

There are several Gopher access services:

  1) Several Email services that will accept an Email request for a Gopher page, and will then Email back the Gopher Servers response (document viewing only; obviously):
  http://www.livinginternet.com/e/ea_net.htm

  2) Gopher Servers can be reached (document viewing only; as this is a "remote" session, downloading is not possible) via a Telnet connection to a Public Lynx Browser (when asked to choose a teminal type, "vt100" gives a clean black & white display):
  http://lynx.scramworks.net/public_lynx.html

  3) The Floodgap World Wide Web (http) Pubilc Gopher Proxy (document viewing only; as attempting to download ZIP files will cause the archive to be renamed "gw.zip", and the download will often become corrupted):
  http://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/index.html
