Bug#972552: Plan forward?

Hi.

Just wanted to check in and ask what the plan going forward is.

IIUC:

The apt version in Stable already has the change that turned the warning into an error (the change essentially rolled back with https://salsa.debian.org/apt-team/apt/-/commit/998a17d7e6f834c341f198ca5b6df2f27e18df38).

Thus an upgrade from buster to bullseye would fail during the upgrade while trying to do the immediate configuration for libc6.

So I would currently see two options to proceed:
1) Backport the fix to buster
2) Implement something else in buster (self-upgrade of apt? Not sure if that would work)

If - as I think would probably be most reasonable - (1) would be chosen, I think it would make sense to do that as soon as possible, but technically, it could probably be done a day before the bullseye release (as one should always first upgrade the old release as much as possible before upgrading to the new one).

Cheers,
Sven
