In my case (bug 850417), it was also an upgrade of a package from
the apt source (libapt-pkg5.0).

In your case (a bit like in my case), one has:

>Unpacking apt (1.4.7) over (1.4.6) ...
>Setting up apt (1.4.7) ...
>dpkg: error: dpkg status database is locked by another process

The "Unpacking apt (1.4.7) over (1.4.6)" requires a lock, right?
Could the error be due to this lock (because of some race condition
somewhere)?
