Bug#830617: apt: "apt-get clean" makes apt-cache slow
Package: apt
Version: 1.3~pre2
Usertags: serious
"apt-get clean" makes apt-cache slooooooooooow:
$ time apt-cache show apt > /dev/null
real 0m0.270s
user 0m0.232s
sys 0m0.028s
$ sudo apt-get clean
$ time apt-cache show apt > /dev/null
real 0m4.118s
user 0m3.072s
sys 0m0.312s
The manpage says that this command "clean clears out the local
repository of retrieved package files" so I wouldn't expect it to have
any effect on apt-cache.
