Package: apt Version: 1.0.9.10 Severity: wishlist The image for "apt moo moo" supports color, but uses it only if an undocumented setting, APT::Moo::Color, is set to true. That's not discoverable without source-diving. Please default it to isatty(1). This way, people running apt interactively will get colored output, without risking garbage if redirections are involved.

Also, the 'colored moo moo' cow is not the same as the 'plain moo moo' cow¹, so by enabling this option by default we break an existing interface and as you might know the deity team is very relucent about this (the by now expected xkcd reference: https://xkcd.com/1172/ ). For 'apt' that might change at some point, as this binary is documented to break stuff left and right and I have plans (muhhhaahaha), but I have signed an NDA with supercow to not spill the beans to early… I am therefore closing this bug as wontfix, to hide it, so that 'moo' isn't suddently discovered from reading the buglist (even through the set of people reading it might be equivalent with the set of people reading the source…). Best regards David Kalnischkies ¹ the udder is missing as I couldn't come up with a sensible color for it. Also, there is a lot of grass on the ground, while plain seems to … I have no idea what that is supposed to be which is why I opted for grass for 'my' derived cow.Attachment: signature.asc
