Hi,

using testing (or unstable) tree of Debian I often run into a problem
upgrading my system with apt-get.

I'd like to upgrade all my installed packages even if they have changed
dependencies and require the installation of additional packages.
But I don't want apt-get to remove any of my installed packages.

Using apt-get upgrade I cannot upgrade packages which requires
installation of new packages at all.
Using apt-get dist-upgrade I can upgrade those packages too but I can't
prevent the upgrade of packages which would result in a removal
of other packages at the same time. I only can choose between allowing
both installation AND removal of packages or none of them. I can't say
allow installation but disallow removal of packages.

So I'm forced to use apt-get update first and than to check every kept
back package manually with apt-get install if it requires the removal of
other packages or not.

It would be nice to have an option allowing apt-get dist-upgrade
to upgrade all packages requiring installation of additional packages
but not to upgrade packages resulting in a removal of other packages.
Somewhat like -i / --install-only plus an appropriate config item.

The new option --with-new-pkgs does what I want and fixes this
