This patch from Jan 2009 no longer applies on 0.9.3.  Further,
parallel builds are currently working fine with this command:

$ fakeroot debian/rules binary -j2

One of the changes in the patch:

-configure.in:
+configure.in: debian/changelog
 	sed -e 's/$(APT_CONFVER)/$(APT_DEBVER)/' $@ > $@.$$$$ …

is obsoleted by this change in 0.9.0~exp1:

  * debian/rules:
    - do not sed in configure.in to set the version-number
