Bug#649588: Workaround

FYI, I tried following this instruction in apt.conf(5): "it should be tried to explicitly install the package APT is unable to configure immediately". Specifically, I manually ran:

dpkg -i --auto-deconfigure /var/cache/apt/archives/perl-modules_5.14.2-5_all.deb
dpkg --auto-deconfigure -i /var/cache/apt/archives/perl_5.14.2-5_i386.deb
dpkg --auto-deconfigure -i /var/cache/apt/archives/perl-base_5.14.2-5_i386.deb

The latter two were because having the old versions prevented perl-modules from configuring and having a half-upgraded perl worried me. After that, "apt-get -f dist-upgrade" worked.
