Bug#647590: apt-cache does not handle Description-md5
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.10.3+squeeze1
Severity: normal
Hi,
apt-cache does not like moving the Description field to an external file as done on
deb http://ftp-master.debian.org/newdists unstable main contrib non-free
It displays something broken (in squeeze) or just an error message (in
testing):

Description-en: video extraction utility for YouTube, Google Video and others
clive is a command line utility for extracting videos from Youtube and other
video sharing Web sites. It was originally written to bypass the Adobe Flash
requirement needed to view the hosted videos. It is non-interactive, meaning
it can work in the background while the user is not logged on. This allows the
user to start an extraction and disconnect from the system, letting clive
finish the work.

The second entry comes from newdists/ and is obviously broken.
On testing:
-------------------------------------------------------
# apt-cache show gnome-terminal
E: Handler silently failed

Not everything is broken: upgrading still works and aptitude also shows the
correct description.
