Bug#549312: Running aptitude under gdb

Running aptitude (aptitude-dbg installed) under gdb gives no error:
the files from /dvd are read correctly. Which suggests a race?

The test run was using both apt and dpkg locally built with "nostrip noopt".

Source: aptitude (0.4.11.11-1)
Version: 0.4.11.11-1+b2

Package: aptitude-dbg
Version: 0.4.11.11-1+b2

Package: apt
Version: 0.7.23.1

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.15.4.1

Summary:
========
There remains a bug on several machines here which prevents
aptitude from installing from /dvd, whether loop mounted iso images or
real dvds. It is unclear which program is responsible but "smells" (to me)
like some sort of race/synchronisation problem between the processes
involved. Problem evaporates when running under gdb.

The original segfault may or may not have been related, but has not occured
for several weeks. Inspection of the /var/log/dpkg.logs shows that several
of the relevant packages have been upgraded at least once since the segfaults
appeared. These machines are normally updated to current testing daily.
The dvds are updated to current jigo images every week or two, but as
testing jigdos are often broken or missing, they are not always current.
Hence there can be long periods when the dvds are not used, so it is not
easy to correlate the last segfault with any particular package update.
