X-Debbugs-Cc: rrs@researchut.com Package: python-apt Version: 0.7.13.3 Severity: wishlist Currently both, the highlevel apt module as well as apt_pkg, provide very basic access to the "update" requirement. apt.py only has a single method, update, that just updates your database. res = self._cache.Update(fetchProgress, self._list, pulseInterval) apt_pkg also have something very similar. There doesn't seem to be a good way to fiddle with the cache like it can be done for cache.Packages. My ultimate goal is to have a replacement for the following in python-apt: `apt-get -qq --print-uris update` Regards, Ritesh -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-trunk-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages python-apt depends on: ii apt [libapt-pkg-libc6.9-6-4.8 0.7.23.1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii apt-utils [libapt-inst-libc6. 0.7.23.1 APT utility programs ii libc6 2.9-25 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.4.1-4 GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.4.1-4 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii lsb-release 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base version report ii python 2.5.4-2 An interactive high-level object- o ii python-central 0.6.11 register and build utility for Pyt Versions of packages python-apt recommends: ii iso-codes 3.11-1 ISO language, territory, currency, ii libjs-jquery 1.3.3-2 JavaScript library for dynamic web Versions of packages python-apt suggests: pn python-apt-dbg <none> (no description available) ii python-gtk2 2.16.0-1 Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii python-vte 1:0.20.5-1 Python bindings for the VTE widget -- no debconf information -- Ritesh Raj Sarraf RESEARCHUT - http://www.researchut.com "Necessity is the mother of invention."Attachment: signature.asc

This can be very easily translated from DoUpdate in APT's cmdline/apt-get.cc and results in: Using python-apt >= 0.7: acquire = apt_pkg.GetAcquire() slist = apt_pkg.GetPkgSourceList() # Read the list slist.ReadMainList() # Add all indexes to the fetcher. slist.GetIndexes(acquire, True) for item in acquire.Items: print item.DescURI Using python-apt 0.8: acquire = apt_pkg.Acquire() slist = apt_pkg.SourceList() # Read the list slist.read_main_list() # Add all indexes to the fetcher. slist.get_indexes(acquire, True) for item in acquire.items: print item.desc_uri Closing the bug. -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/.Attachment: signature.asc
