Bug#432913: Solved, but whithout clear explanation

Ok, I could solve the problem.
Anyway the solution and the cause of the bug are still mysterious to me...

Here is what I did:
1) cp /var/lib/apt /var/lib/apt_org [backup]
2) rm /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.* [remove the lists]

Now "apt-get update" works perfectly.
I thought there was a corruption in the ftp.* files, but this was not the case because after the update I checked with a diff:
diff -r /var/lib/apt_org /var/lib/apt
and nothing was printed, I checked also with kdiff3 and all files are binary equal.

Why this happened? Probably there is bug in apt which can cause it to write bad data which cannot be recovered by himself.

By the way, anyone knows why the diff showed no difference before and after?
