Ah, thanks for the response. My bad for not reading the man page, sorry about that.

I'm sure this is a matter of religious debate so feel free to ignore me, but it seems to me that this is probably not the behavior most people would expect. I've been using Debian for many years and I don't think I've ever needed to do a regex search in this way.

It might be more obvious and friendly if "search" just did a plain string search and you had to do "-regex search" (or something) to enable regex mode.
