Package: apt Version: 0.5.5 Severity: minor Hi, $ LANG="C" sudo apt-get install flex-old Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Recommended packages: c-compiler The following packages will be REMOVED: flex The following NEW packages will be installed: flex-old 0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 1 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Need to get 0B/184kB of archives. After unpacking 246kB disk space will be freed. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] The Recommended packages: is a far as I see only displayed if the packages aren't installed yet. c-compiler is installed on my system though gcc-3.2 which it provides. So it seems that this routine cannot get the right infos for virtual packages when the package just Recommends: virtual package and does not do Recommends: foo | virtual package; that works in one case I tested.
