same with the above line. add a total

       xsane 
     284 packages upgraded, 67 newly installed, 29 to remove and 1  not upgraded.

by the way, there's an ugly space after the 1


why the changes above? because it is too easy for the casual user to
not realize which are which. i.e. he should understand that the 284
haven't been mentioned.

     Need to get 353MB of archives. After unpacking 12.8MB will be used.
