Package: apt
Version: 0.5.4

apt fails to build from source on i386, when doing a binary-all build.

I am just filing this bug to notify you that I failed to build your
package from source. This is actually a serious bug, it will be
upgraded to "serious" severity after woody is released

This build was done using pbuilder package.

Build log follows:
===========================================
find ./build/bin/ -type f -name "libapt-inst*.so.*" -exec cp -a "{}" debian/apt-utils/usr/lib/ \;
find ./build/bin/ -type l -name "libapt-inst*.so.*" -exec cp -a "{}" debian/apt-utils/usr/lib/ \;
cp ./build/bin/apt-ftparchive ./build/bin/apt-sortpkgs ./build/bin/apt-extracttemplates debian/apt-utils/usr/bin/
dh_installdocs -papt-utils
# Install the man pages..
mkdir -p debian/apt-utils/usr/share/man/man1
cp doc/apt-sortpkgs.1 doc/apt-ftparchive.1 doc/apt-extracttemplates.1 debian/apt-utils/usr/share/man/man1/
dh_installchangelogs -papt-utils
dh_strip -papt-utils
dh_compress -papt-utils
dh_fixperms -papt-utils
dh_installdeb -papt-utils
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=\D_LIBRARY_PATH:`pwd`/debian/apt/usr/lib:`pwd`/debian/apt-utils/usr/lib dh_shlibdeps -papt-utils -- -Ldebian/shlibs.local.apt-utils
dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: chown of `debian/apt-utils.substvars.new': Operation not permitted
dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code
make: *** [apt-utils] Error 1
pbuilder: Failed autobuilding of package
===========================================

        LD_LIBRARY_PATH=\$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:`pwd`/debian/apt/usr/lib:`pwd`/debian/
$@/usr/lib dh_shlibdeps -p$@ -- -Ldebian/shlibs.local.apt-utils

seems to be expanded in an unexpected way.

   junichi

Maybe build it as root, or otherwise change your system to prevent the
above error.
