Bug#136749: apt: Default package list permissions cause apt-cache search to segfault when run as non-root user.
Package: apt
Version: 0.5.4
Severity: normal
Setting package list permissions to 0644 solved the problem. Suggested fix is to either return a correct error message when lists cannot be opened or to ensure permissions are 0664 at download time.
