I have some more information: I went ahead and let the dist-upgrade from scenario1 run through (without wiggy's repo). I then dist-upgraded again. Nothing should have happened. But it did: apt-get -u -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true dist-upgrade Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Calculating Upgrade... Starting Starting 2 Done Done The following packages will be upgraded acm 1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. I ran dist-upgrade again, and this time I got straight zeroes. I then re-added wiggy's repo, and tried to dist-upgrade: apt-get -u -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true dist-upgrade Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Calculating Upgrade... Starting Starting 2 Investigating vim Package vim has broken dep on vim-rt Considering vim-rt 0 as a solution to vim 0 Holding Back vim rather than change vim-rt Try to Re-Instate vim Done Done The following packages have been kept back vim 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Is this a problem with wiggy's package? If so, I can't see it.
