Bug#108124: apt: A Post-Install-Pkgs might be useful

Package: apt
Version: 0.5.3
Severity: wishlist

Hello, Jason, Randolf, Ben, et al,
First off, thanks for maintaining and extending apt; it's a wonderful tool
and the main reason I use debian.
That being said, I have a request: A Post-Install-Pkgs, like
Pre-Install-Pkgs but run after, rather then before, the packages are
unpacked (and configured, probably, though for my purposes it doesn't matter).
Aside from the symetry issues, I have a specific reason for this wish: to
use it to have debsums generate md5s for packages that don't already have
them for all files automaticly after their installation. I tried doing this
with a Post-Invoke, but that doesn't give the names (or paths) of the
packages that were newly-installed, and doing a complete regeneration seems
quite inneficent, and additionaly makes it difficult (if not impossible) to
tell what sums were generated from the freshly-installed packages, and which
are stale.

(BTW, I'm filing a wishlist bug on debsums about this too, so it's
maintainer will probably be contacting you.)

PS -- Sorry to all those who'se name I didn't list; I just pulled the last
few entries off of the changelog.

PSS -- The email address on this is somwhat incorrect; use james@rtweb.net
instead.

	Thank you,
	-=- James Mastros
