Bug#60488: internal error

I seem to have hit this bug too:

  vanzandt-pc:~# apt-get install libdb2
  Reading Package Lists... Done
  Building Dependency Tree... Done
  The following extra packages will be installed:
    g++ libc6 libc6-dev libdb2-util libnss-db libstdc++2.10-dev
    libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 locales
  The following NEW packages will be installed:
    libdb2-util libnss-db libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2
  6 packages upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove and 228 not upgraded.
  Need to get 0B/8861kB of archives. After unpacking 3453kB will be used.
  Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
  E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration

I have not found any subset of these packages that apt-get can
install, either.

This bug was opened in March, and the report included at least a large
part of the diagnosis. What are the prospects for getting it fixed?

In the mean time, it would be helpful to know whether it is safe as a
workaround to just collect the relevant .deb files in a directory and
do

  dpkg -i *.deb
