Bug#56708: apt: another (new?) dependency problem
Package: apt
Version: 0.3.16
Severity: normal
Hi,
this problem occurred, when I dist-upgraded today.
apt-get wanted to remove wmaker and wmaker-plain.
The situation is as follows:
The old wmaker depended on wmaker-plain and wmaker-plain
depended on that specific version of wmaker.
Now wmaker-plain was merged into wmaker and wmaker conflicts
with wmaker-plain. Therefore, for the new version of wmaker,
apt-get removes wmaker-plain, which in turn causes removing
of wmaker itself. Thus, after dist-upgrade no wmaker at all.
The problem can be solved by apt-get install wmaker, which
removes wmaker-plain and updates wmaker. Although it looks
like a bug in the dependencies (circular dependencies in the
previous version of wmaker/-plain?), apt may try to correct
the situation with the new version (which works as demonstrated
by apt-get install).
You may downgrade the severity of this report to wishlist,
if appropriate.
Thanks,
Ulf
