some features missing
i have some needs of what´s missing with apt-get.
sometimes, esp. when after updating libs like the under-devellopement
libgtk1-1, or currently windowmaker, some packages are broken.
it could be useful when apt-get has a logfile with information about
when what was updated (with package-version) and why: new package
selected (install), upgrade, or due to dependency of another program.
furthermore, due to the great devellopement on free software, i´d like
apt-get to tell you, after making an update, which packages are ´new´,
sorted for
a) the new versions of the ones (currently, "apt-get (dist-)upgrade"
tells about, before the actual beginning of the download)
b) really new alternatives for currently installed packages (think of a
new vi clone)
c) new versions of alternatives for installed packages (for e.g. you are
waiting for a fixed smail, and for that time you have uninstalled smail
and use sendmail instead)
d) packages that are completely new and you might not see for years,
because otherwise you may not heard of them (that´s what i deeply miss -
quite often there´s a change in the package-description with apt-update,
but the upgrade tells that there´s nothing new to upgrade -- and i have
no chance to see what actualy has changed..)
btw: the apt-get tool is *really* great!
cheers,
