Bug#25200: apt: more apt troubles

Package: apt
Version: N/A
Severity: important

- bo system
- I get apt from debian mirror and install with dpkg
- I try to read /usr/doc/apt which is a bit bizarre since it's in some
"text" format which gives me number at every end of line.
- I try to do atp-get update
- apt bails out because it can not access http://ftp1.us.debian.org. ftp1
says "you are not allowed to access /debian"
- how can I find out which http mirror I can use? There are not any pointer
I was able to find. Neiter on www.debian.org nor in the apt manual nor in
  the README-upgrade
- so the logical step is to switch to the ftp method and use my nearest
  debian mirror
- of course apt bails out because it needs libmd5-perl_1.7-1.deb
- so I go to my debian mirror and get it manually (I still don't understand
what the idea of an automatical update procedure is if there are steps that
have to be done manualy - what for?)
- big surprise, libmd5-perl_1.7-1.deb needs libc6 which I don't have because
I am not updated, which I can't do because the update program needs libc6 ->
  circular death.
- I go to the mirror and try to get the old libmd5-perl_1. Big surprise,
it's not there anymore because bo has been removed.
- What now?
- OK I go and get and install libc6 with dpkg (autohandically).
- I do apt-get update and get:
    Get http://non-us.debian.org unstable/binary-i386/ Packages
    0% [Forking] [Packages onnecting to non-us.debian.org' 0]
    Fetched 27.8k in 3s (7575b/s)
    Updating package file cache...
    E: Opening /var/state/apt/lists/sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch_mirror_linux_distributions_debian_dists_dists_frozen_contrib_binary-i386_Packages - ifstream::ifstream (2 No such file or directory)
- I try to do apt-get clear; apt-get update but it stays the same.
- What now?
- I go to the upgrade directory and surprise, surprise, there's only
  cd_autoup.sh. Well, I don't have a CD here.
- Now what? OK, I'll find autoup.sh somewhere.
