Could you apply the simple patch (unmark tumbler as m-a: same)
in stable/bookworm too, as tumbler still breaks crossgrader
there? This should be possible as the bug is Severity: serious.

BTW, on https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/tumbler is written:

     excuses:
        Migration status for tumbler (4.18.2-1 to 4.20.0-1):

So according to the BTS this bug has been reintroduced in
unstable with the 4.20.0-1 upload.
