Package: xfwm4
Version: 4.14.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

xfwm4 process after 10-15 days of uptime gradually starts to consume
significant amounts of CPU:

- up to 15-18% of a CPU core in completely idle state
- up to 80-100% of a CPU core when switching between windows with alt-tab

For reference, immediately after launch the process consumes between
0.7% and 1% of a CPU core when idle.

Additionally, opengl-based applications are also negatively affected
(lower framerate and increased CPU load) by xfwm4 when it is in such
laggy state.

I am using Intel HD630 GPU, I have not tried to reproduce this on
other hardware, however I never had this problem in xfce 4.12 or
before.

What I have tried:

- changing vblank mode of xfwm4: has no effect - the bug manifests
with all vblank modes
- changing xorg driver: has no effect - the bug manifests both with
'intel' and 'modesetting' drivers
- changing TearFree option of 'intel' xorg driver on/off: no effect -
the bug manifests regardless of the state of this setting
- restarting xfwm periodically (menu -> run -> xfwm4 --replace) - this
fixes the problem until it surfaces again after the same period of
time

This is a very significant regression compared to xfwm in xfce 4.12.

The upstream has not been able to fix this during last 8 months:
