For what it's worth, it seems that it might not entirely be linked to
lightdm/light-locker. Other people apparently reproduce the same kind of
situation (no backlight, need for a vt-switch) in other environment. It
happens usually with Intel graphics cards and involves suspend/resume cycles
and maybe docking/undocking.
