Dear David,
did you try the following workaround?
echo 'active-monitor=0' | sudo tee -a /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
# And the restart or:
sudo systemctl restart lightdm.service
If that doesn't work, please send the output of:
sudo tail -n 30 /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log
