Same result, no output to the terminal.  Nothing shows up in
.xsession-errors (ran the kfce4-keyboard-settings while doing "tail -f
.xsession-keyboard-settings in another terminal).  However, a grep of
.xsession-errors shows a number of lines consisting of:
