Already did that, same result.

This works with "LXDE". Just for reference
$ ls /usr/share/xsessions
LXDE.desktop
openbox.desktop
openbox-gnome.desktop
openbox-kde.desktop
ssh.desktop

Hmm
$ ls /var/log/lightdm/
ls: cannot open directory /var/log/lightdm/: Permission denied
$ ls -ld /var/log/lightdm/
drwx--x--x 2 root root 4096 iul 31 01:09 /var/log/lightdm/
Could you please make that rwxr-xr-x instead? Especially since
lightdm.log is world readable. Shall I attach a lightdm.log from a
failed attempt?

That explains it, but IMVHO it's not a good idea to have it so tied to
Xfce.
