No, I needed to install consolekit to make it work.

I don't really track Recommends religiously, and I do autoremove and
deborphan as part of each upgrade routine, so I had probably removed it
myself at some point. If you just add this recommendation, it would make
things that much clearer.

For example, gnome-power-manager depends on it. Whereas, in the squeeze
version, xfce4-session doesn't recommend it.
