Yeah, I definitively think the X driver has to do with that, but it's
not exactly clear what's the problem. Some have the problem with nvidia
drivers, some with radeon free drivers, some don't.

It'd be nice, especially the vte stuff. It seems it may be a
xfce4-terminal+vte bug (gnome-terminal doesn't have the problem iirc,
but I don't really know as I can't reproduce here anyway).
