Because upstream decided so. I guess it's because an ics file is not a
config file but more a data file, something like that.

NEWS.Debian will provide the information (and the method to get your old
calendars back). We cant really do it ourselves because touching every
calendar for every user is not really a good idea, especially if
something goes bad.
