This was a known bug between xfce 4.2.2 and gtk 2.8. But it's fixed with
xfce 4.2.3, so I don't know if it's related.
Do you have old xfce 4.2.2 resting somewhere on your disk (like some old
packages from osworks, or source install or other) ? And what is your
gtk version ?
