I followed the thread and have to say the following:
(1) Science/Education: The fd.o desktop spec is a cross-desktop
specification (of course, it is only a recommendation). So I suggest to
follow the specification and the specification says, that "it is
strongly recommended to also include the category listed under Related
Categories" (my impression of XFCE's implementation of the spec was,
that they tried to follow the spec). A lot of programmers follow these
recommendations when they create the .desktop file for their
application(s). If I now put a chemical application in
Categories=Education;Science;Chemistry;
following the spec, I expect to find it in Education (KDE, GNOME) and
not in a "new" category Science (XFCE). You see, what I mean?
(2) Your post was right. I meant, that
<subcategory name="Project Management" />
should be
<subcategory name="ProjectManagement" replaces="Project Management" />
because the category names don't have spaces. And the category
"ProjectManagement" is mentioned several times in the file. So I
thought, that is was only a typo. It was never my intention to say, that
"ProjectManagement" should become the user-visible entry.

It does not really "break", but it breaks with the recommendation and
the uniform cross-desktop spec idea. So if you want, re-tag the bug as
"wishlist".
