Bug#1109931: bugs.debian.org: Debian Trixie fails to start and hangs without 'nouveau.modeset=0' specified in GRUB
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: elyasjohar12@gmail.com
Dear Maintainer,
This happens after I have installed Debian 13 (over Debian 12). On the first boot, the Nouveau driver stalled, and nothing else at all started. This would repeat with every boot.
I have tried disabling Intel VT-d and virtualisation, since there was some mention of virtualisation as well as SGX being disabled/unsupported by the BIOS.
However, neither of those fixed the issue, but they did reduce the amount of errors.
One solution that has worked is disabling mode-setting by appending "nouveau.modeset=0" to the line "linux /boot/vmlinuz-6.12.38+deb13-amd64 root=UUID=(UUID here) ro quiet".
This finally allowed initramfs to fully start.
I have not tried installing the Nvidia driver though.
Thank you.
