I forgot... with the Noto Mono font (various sizes), e.g.

  xterm -fa "Noto Mono-10"
  xterm -fa "Noto Mono-12"
  xterm -fa "Noto Mono-14"

This is not reproducible with "DejaVu Sans Mono".
