Bug#1087003: x11proto-dev: Missing XIproto.txt and XI2proto.txt
Package: x11proto-dev
Version: 2024.1-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
The package x11proto-dev is missing, at least, XIproto.txt and
XI2proto.txt, which are the documentation for the X11 Input extension,
versions 1.5 and 2.4, respectively.
They exist in the upstream sources (under the /specs directory), but
have not been included in the packaging branch at
https://salsa.debian.org/xorg-team/proto/xorgproto .
I believe the ultimate problem is
https://salsa.debian.org/xorg-team/proto/xorgproto/-/commit/ffb0fb694ce39487d5546740451206afd0ad89df
('remove useless man/ and specs/ from packaging branch')
which deleted these files (accidentally, I assume), and all git merges
from upstream have faithfully applied that deletion.
This also explains why specs/SIAddresses is missing; specs/printproto
is also missing, but I didn't dig into that b/c no one cares...
It's probably not helped that the build files (for meson and autotools)
make no mention of the XI?proto.txt files. The only reference I found
was in attic/inputproto/specs/Makefile.am, so I suspect they were
dropped on the floor during the last great refactoring.
