Bug#998246: Running X ends with a floating point exception
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.20.11-1
Xorg fails to start on my laptop after a recent update. When lightdm
(my default display manager) tries to start it, it just goes into an
infinite loop where it looks like X might be running okay (the mouse
cursor appears for a split seconds), but then goes back to the raw
console, and tries to start X again.
Running startx as my own user ends in the following log.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log contains a similar error and stacktrace, but
without the resolved symbol names in .so files.

The hardware is a rather old Pentium M laptop with 1GB of RAM and an
integrated Intel 915GM graphics chip. xserver-xorg-video-intel version
is 2:2.99.917+git20200714-1+b1. Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able
to use the modesetting driver with this hardware, as it requires
OpenGL version 2.1 which this chip is missing.
