Package: xserver-common
Version: 3.3.6-8
Severity: wishlist

The xserver-wrapper program has a check in main() for the permissions
on the server socket directory. The warning doesn't tell the name of
the directory where these permissions are found. On receiving this
message, I had to grep strings in the likely programs until I found
the one printing the message, b) search the .dsc files to find the
source archive responsible for the errant program, c) grep through the
diff files to find the error string, and d) read the code to discover
the name of the directory that it was complaining about. While I do
this sort of thing all day long, others....

For some reason, the /tmp/.X11-unix directory was owned by my personal
group on my machine. I cannot explain this since I've never had to
know about this directory.

Simply reporting the name of the socket directory would be a big help.

No reply in five years, belatedly I am closing the bug again.
