Bug#883070: xdm cannot be stopped when it's running multiple servers

Hi,

I've been annoyed by what I think is the same bug for a few years now.

I've got an NVidia card with vendor drivers, and I'd like to run two X servers on different Virtual Terminals, since it works pretty fine for the most part, and I often need to use 2 different user accounts for testing etc...

But when I try to shutdown the machine, the script for shutting down xdm fails and waits for 1min30s every time.

On another machine with just one X server I noticed that if I initiate a shutdown from a text VT while I'm logged in on the xdm the same thing happens.

I've been able to reproduce this effect reliably on several different machines over the years. I mostly run sid, but I'm sure the bug has migrated over to stable as well by now.
