Dear Maintainer,

as xserver-xorg-video-modestting shall be the successor to xserver-xorg-video-intel, I am wondering, why it can not be installed.

I tried to install it, but due to several dependencies it will deinstall several applications (like Imagemagick). So, tI do not believe, the package is broken, just more are the dependencies.

My computer is running an Intel I945 graphics card, which is working with the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver, but as documented, this driver is declared as old and should be successed, with the modesetting one.

It would be nice, if you could take a look at that.

If you think (or define) this is not a bug, please inform me and close this bugreport.

Thank you for your work.

Best regards

Hans

Because the modesetting driver is shipped in the xserver-xorg-core
package these days.

,----
| $ dpkg -L xserver-xorg-core | grep modesetting
| /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so
| /usr/share/man/man4/modesetting.4.gz
`----

No, for such old cards it is recommended to keep the intel driver. The
modesetting driver is only used by default on generation four based
cards[1] and newer.
