Bug#861186: Xorg crash / Assertion uxa_pixmap_is_offscreen(src_pixmap) failed

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.16.4-1
Severity: important

I'm running a virtual machine in KVM/libvirt and accessing it with SPICE
/ virt-viewer. The VM and the virt-viewer systems both run jessie.

I logged in, opened a couple of terminal windows and then clicked to
open Firefox and the desktop crashed and went back to the gdm login screen.

Looking at journalctl I found the following:

Apr 25 15:41:05 iceweasel.desktop[3219]: Gtk-Message: Failed to load
module "canberra-gtk-module"
Apr 25 15:41:07 gdm-Xorg-:0[22317]: qxl_surface_create: Bad bpp: 1 (1)
Apr 25 15:41:08 gdm-Xorg-:0[22317]: qxl_surface_create: Bad bpp: 1 (1)
Apr 25 15:41:09 gdm-Xorg-:0[22317]: Xorg:
../../../src/uxa/uxa-glyphs.c:991: uxa_glyphs_via_mask: Assertion
`uxa_pixmap_is_offscreen(src_pixmap)' failed.
Apr 25 15:41:09 thd029 org.gnome.Terminal[2155]:
(gnome-terminal-server:2774): Gdk-WARNING **: gnome-terminal-server:
Fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.

and then there are a whole bunch of other errors before gdm / Xorg
restarts itself.

A similar crash had happened once before.
