In the comment, you can see they renamed 50-synaptics.conf in 70-synaptics.conf because "When specifically installed by the user, the synaptics driver should override the system default." (dixit).

But I think they are always installed both in Debian.

It means to make Gnome works, I had to rename 70-synaptics.conf file.

I tried to purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics but xserver-xorg-input-all depends on it.
