That's because the libinput driver is managing your touchpad, rather than the
synaptics driver.
If you can't configure the libinput driver to your liking, you can probably
force the synaptics driver with some xorg.conf magic. Otherwise you can
uninstall the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package.
