Package: xserver-xorg-legacy
Version: 2:1.18.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Dear Maintainer,
Starting X via "startx" somehow locks up the input system: my xsession
starts up, but keyboard and trackpoint stop working (including
ctrl-alt-f#, ctrl-alt-backspace).
My music player keeps playing, so the computer is alive, I just can't
interact with it. I don't have ssh access or even an external keyboard
right now, so my only option is to force a shutdown.
If I instead try to start X via "startx -- vt8", then X errors out with
| xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual console 8 (Permission denied)
and refuses to start.
This makes it impossible for me to start an x session outside of xdm
(which still works). Therefore I'm reporting this as a grave bug in
-legacy.
Both issues can be fixed by downgrading xserver-common,
xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg-legacy to 2:1.18.0-3 .
Attached are logfiles for both failure modes.
Thanks for your work on Debian.
regards,
Jan
