Bug#813661: xserver-xorg-video-intel: severe display corruption on Sandy Bridge

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.99.917+git20160127-1+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Since upgrading to the above version, I am experiencing severe display
corruption on a Sandy Bridge GPU when using the chromium browser.
Other graphical applications (xterm, evince, gimp) are not affected.

The corruption occurs when the window spans the full width of the
screen, and disappears when reducing the window to half the width.
(I am using the awesome tiling window manager.) Please see the
attached screenshots of the full width versus half width case.

The corruption is transient in nature, i.e., when interacting with
the window by moving the cursor or entering text into the address bar,
existing artifacts flicker or vanish and new artifacts emerge. The
issue is present regardless of whether 2D GPU acceleration is enabled
or disabled in the browser.

Downgrading to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917-2 fixes the issue.

Please let me know how I can help debugging this regression.

Regards,
Peter
