Hello,

While simple OpenGL applications like glxgears run flawlessly, more
complex OpenGL applications randomly triggers GPU lockup.

Let's go with ioquake3-based Quake III as an example.
Demo playback can run flawlessly for several minutes or lock up within

At this point, system reboot is required. And sometimes system is hard
locked and power cycling is needed to restart (with orphan inodes at
next reboot...).

It's not clear to me whether floating-point assist faults are
responsible for GPU lockup or not.
Anyway, shouldn't video driver be error-proof w.r.t. "badly written"
applications that may trigger floating-point assist faults or
unaligned accesses?

r300 (Classic Mesa) also had issues in the past on ia64 but error
messages weren't the same IIRC. And latest version that I tested in
Squeeze was rock stable.
GPU lockups like this one started to surface with the switch to r300g.
Previous Mesa 7.11 was also affected, but GPU lockups occur far more
frequently since the switch to Mesa 8.0.

Disabling AGP mode in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf didn't help.
