In compatibility level 9, dh_strip uses build-id under /usr/lib/debug,
see bug #642158[1] and the "COMPATIBILITY LEVELS" section in
debhelper(7).  Switching to that compatibility level was necessary to
fix this bug in the first place, because the drivers are shipped under
multiple hardlinks[2].

Looks like you have been hit by bug #661193[3].  Two days ago somebody sent
a patch the LKML[4], apparently without any reply yet.
