I suspect that it's a different problem, Mesa 10.6 introduced a
regression[1] in the nouveau_vieux driver which has been fixed in
10.6.4.  Unfortunately the current version of libgl1-mesa-dri is not
installable in stable, but you probably can test it in the following
way:

$ dpkg-deb -x libgl1-mesa-dri_10.6.5-1_i386.deb /tmp/scratchdir
$ LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/tmp/scratchdir/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri glxinfo
