Package: xfs
Version: 4.1.0-14
Severity: wishlist

hi
a trivial suggestion but I think it'd be useful - you might want to add
some documentation in /usr/share/doc/xfs to indicate how to install new
truetype fonts. The procedure is simple but not obviously documented
anywhere. I don't claim to be an expert at this (in fact I only just
managed to get some truetype fonts installed now) but thought I'd hack
out a quick-`n-dirty README.truetype_install. I don't know if fonts.dir
_and_ fonts.scale are required.

__BEGIN__
The procedure to install new truetype fonts that are not contained in a
Debian package is relatively simple. It is _strongly_ reccomended that
new truetype fonts be placed in /usr/local/share/fonts/truetype, which
may need to be created first.

1) Download and install the "ttmkfontdir" package from the debian archive.
2) Run "ttmkfontdir -o fonts.scale" from within the directory containing
the fonts.
3) Copy fonts.scale to fonts.dir
4) Edit your xfs configuration ( in /etc/X11/fs/config ) and add an
entry for your font directory to the end of the "catalogue" line.

When you shut down X, restart xfs, and re-launch X your new fonts should
be available. In the mean time, if your X server has freetype support
enabled you can manually add them with "xset fp+ <fontdir>".

This information was drawn from the "TrueType Fonts on Debian XFree86
4.x Systems" document by Paul D. Smith, found at
http://www.paulandlesley.org/linux/xfree4_tt.html
__END__

BTW thanks for the good work on a really, really handy tool.
